Sowing the Seeds of Success

Our Library

At Wellstead, we are committed to encouraging children to read for pleasure. It is a great way of building imagination, vocabulary and language skills, and of course that lifelong love for books!

It is important to us that everyone should enjoy our carefully chosen selection of books so all our classes have a timetabled slot to visit the library each week. During this time the children can choose from our catalogue of around 4,000 books. Our librarian is at hand to assist the children and inspire them by introducing new authors, genres and book releases. And of course we have a special story time for our younger children.

We try to allow your child to select whichever book appeals to them, as we want to support a real interest in books. Please take the time to read your child’s library book with them. It is such a special and valuable time spent together and will really help your child to develop a lifelong passion for reading.

Please ensure that your child brings their library book to school every week. Even if your child is still reading a book we ask that the book be brought to the library, so we may renew the title. Children will not be able to borrow a new book unless their previous loans have been returned.

Story Quest

We are running a number of incentives and competitions in the library to engage your child with reading. The most popular and longest running incentive is our Story Quest. Children in KS2 are invited to embark on the quest. We have carefully selected six chapter books for each year group to read at home during the academic year. Story Quest finishers are being rewarded with a national book token and a certificate.

Family Day

One afternoon, every half term we open our library doors to our Wellstead families. Come and visit the library after school together with your child to choose some books to read at home. If you apply for a family account with us your child may borrow up to five books.

Donations and Amazon wishlist

We are always thankful for book donations. If you would like to donate books, please may we ask that they are age appropriate and in very good condition.

If you wish to donate a specific book to our library, then please visit our Amazon wishlisthttps://shorturl.at/gJUXZ
